Soon we will will pass the expected last frost dates. Entering the safe time to plant frost sensitive annuals means trips to the garden centers and greenhouses to purchase all my tomatoes and container plants. This has been one year when the temperatures have been quite chilly and I would not have dreamed to try to plant tomatoes early.
I did manage a small patch of lettuce which is showing some pretty green leaves now. It weathered through some late frosts. It is time to do another succession planting.
The seesaw temperatures meant that some of the spring blooms were short lived. Daffodils withered a bit quicker than I liked, although the later varieties lasted longer when the cooler weather arrived.

Didn’t expect that video to as blurry as it was, but perhaps that was due to settings or the fact that the video was not processed through movie software first ( that is what I usually do, and has a much better quality).
Right now my main interest has been sprucing up the garden. I finally covered the veggie paths with the old cut up wool rug (insects had gotten to it) and mulch. I hope it smothers all the weeds for a long time to come.
Now in the garden, it will be the work of getting those raised beds cleaned of the persistent grass weeds and ready for the vegetable plants.
I’m hoping for another good crop of cucumbers this year.
The last frost dates in this part of Ohio are between now and May 10.

This post could have been written by either of us here in central Ohio! Normally, I’d be stocking up on my tender plants, keeping them in the kitchen for safe keeping till it was time. But I’m traveling next week, and won’t be around to water anything. But when I get back, it all begins! It better be nice out on May 16, because that’s the day.
