I planted lots of tulipa “Renown” last fall.
Queen of the Bartigons is a perennial tulip… it has lasted here for more than fifteen years, and is always beautiful.
Oh Ilona your spring garden looks so pretty. The tulips are lovely. I need to invest in some perennial or species tulips. This things I by at the box stores are done after one year and I jerked out quite a few this spring. It would really be cheaper in the long run.I hope our silly Ohio weather gets into one mode here soon.
You have two plants that I wish I could have here in the south. Lilacs, yes I know Miss Kim does well here…..I want the old fashioned lilacs, and tulips, again, I know there are a few varieities that do well here…but I want it all.
Your lilac looks great limbed up like that.
Lona Dawn- some names to look for : Ivory Floradale and Queen of the Bartigons; most of the lily flowered tulips, especially the the white and one called China Pink. If you like Bright yellow- Pres. Kennedy and the Apeldoorn. All will tend to last a long time in the garden.
Janet- yes, we get some perks for our cold temperature tolerance, I guess :) Lilacs are very beautiful here- and I should try to limb up some of the others I have…although if they don’t block a walkway, or I don’t have to see them as a focal point I tend to get lazy about the pruning. But you all do have things like gardenias, crape myrtles and live oaks…. so I’m not feeling sorry for you;) -not that you asked for pity!
