Listened to Joe the Gardener

Poked around Joe’s website-blog empire for a bit and listened to his really good podcast, No.22. Loved the things that were discussed in Fern Marshall Bradley’s interview. It centered around the Reader’s Digest “All-New Illustrated Guide to Gardening”.

I know it seems I’m all about books, right now… but that is a coincidence, really. I was doing some research to flesh out my post on the “forgotten coast” area when I write up my little (or not so little) post on the darling garden in Seagrove.

Back to Joe… one of the things I found so interesting about listening to his podcast was the way I perceive the influence of garden bloggers. I think it is part of the pressure to be more environmentally aware and educate the vast number of people about why “organic” is important. “Organic” and “green” are buzzwords right now, and as such they are in danger of being given that peculiar non word status that overmarketing produces. But we can make a difference in that. Garden blogging provides context and gives real meaning to what we reference when we say “Green”. Everything from providing helpful tips to essays on its importance, teaching others who might not be fully aware of why organically produced goods and foods are better for them and their environment now, not just in some vague future. This is where blogging really comes into its own. Well, soapbox essays are for another day- today why not give this podcast a listen? Very enjoyable, and educational :)

Oh, hi there!

I was a garden blog pioneer, and began writing on this blog in 2003. Before that I had begun a garden website that has been at its own domain since 2006, Ilona's Garden.

I still love writing, gardening, and art after all these years, although travel and grandchildren have become a big part of my life, now.
