Fashionista Gardening

I think Ivette, the Germinatrix, has found the essence of today’s taste in gardening. Not that some of us aren’t old fashioned holdouts, but it is a (fashionista) way to look at your garden design that will keep you from making some of the more obviously unsatisfying design faux pas.

That is the way to think about blooms. The modern garden is about foliage, form, color, and texture – flowers are ephemeral; precious moments in time. They are accents; accessories that add that something extra. When I look at a really flower-centric garden, it makes me think of someone wearing something frou-frou, AND big earrings, AND bangles AND bracelets galore, PLUS rings on every finger, ALSO a huge ornate handbag, AND fur, WITH five inch heels, and AND huge sunglasses.

It makes me think of Rachel Zoe.
