18 Ideas for Your Garden Journal

Karen of www.GardenChick.com offers these ideas for filling your a garden journal:

    1. * Pictures of gardens you like
    2. * Results of soil tests
    3. * Seed starting dates, planting times, and harvesting time for your plants
    4. * Date of first and last frost for your area
    5. * Lunar phases for “planting by the moon”
    6. * A calendar for planning your plantings
    7. * Catalogs
    8. * Plants you want in your garden and their soil, sun, and water requirements
    9. * A diagram of your garden with each row labeled as to what you planted. This will help with crop rotation, and companion planting
    10. * Diagram of individual beds with plantings labeled. (Many plants die back, and you can’t remember what that is coming up next spring!)
    11. * Pictures of garden art, sheds, garden décor that you like and where you can purchase them.
    12. * Upcoming garden shows and what you want to look for/purchase.
    13. * The weather. Was it too hot, too dry, too wet, and how did that affect your plants?
    14. * Recipes for your harvest (will help you decide what you need to plant and what to do with all those peppers and tomatoes you will plant)
    15. * An envelope for receipts. My local garden center will replace a fruit tree, bush etc., within 3 years if it dies and you return with receipt and the dead plant.
    16. * Insects: The good, the bad, and the ugly, along with the birds and butterflies that visited your garden.
    17. * Before and after pictures are a must. The garden at 1 year, 3 years, etc.
    18. * Garden quotes, stickers, and of course, pictures of kids, grandkids, and pets.

Oh, hi there!

I was a garden blog pioneer, and began writing on this blog in 2003. Before that I had begun a garden website that has been at its own domain since 2006, Ilona's Garden.

I still love writing, gardening, and art after all these years, although travel and grandchildren have become a big part of my life, now.
