The corn and soybeans in the fields are looking quite good after our recent soaking rains. The flowers are finally starting to look like something- the dry and hot days had taken a toll on them and they had gone on hold for awhile. Now, though, the blooms are all in nice clumps that look more like June annuals than early August ones.
Tomato plants here are doing fine in my garden, but I haven’t had much in the way of fruits. I am sure it was the effect of drought conditions. I do have some nice looking peppers, though.
The grass has to be mown more, even though the temperatures are still quite hot- supposed to be in the 90’s all week.
We’ve worked on the gardens -weeding but not keeping up. The rain did wonders for the weeds! Everytime I set someone up with an area to weed: “Mom – there is poison ivy here”. Sometimes a serious amount and sometimes a weeny teeny new start. All weeding production shuts down until Mom can get rid of the offending culprit plant. Then hopefully Mom can find the drafted helper du jour.. who has wandered off into the netherlands of the property or far reaches of the house.
Eventually we make progress.
Highlight: we made the trek to Innis gardens on Sunday so I have enough pictures to post on the blog with a dscription of the gardens. Next on the posting agenda!
