First Snow

Today we woke up to our first dusting of snow. Just enough to sugar coat everything with a light powdering. I love this time of year.

I wasn’t very good about bringing in my inside plants and lost some to frosts. I hate when I do that.

I wrote a bit in the houseblog I started, if you are interested in that.

I have lots of family coming in to town for the holiday after all. I just wasn’t expecting it and have to scramble to put together something festive. My husband is all dumpy due to being tired – he doesn’t want to see me do the cooking for everyone. Sort of a displaced tiredness, since it is something I like to do. I guess when you are really tired out from doing lots of remodeling and all that, it makes you tired just to see someone else work. I can relate to that.

I read some gift ideas for gardeners in the newspaper this last week. None of it particularly appealed to me, but then I thought maybe it would to some other gardeners. we aren’t all alike, you know.

What’s on your Christmas wishlist? This year I don’t really have a wishlist, for the first time I just feel like I don’t need anyone to give me gifts. Kind of strange, I know. Even though there are lots of things I like, but I guess I look at my kids just starting out, or my husband trying hard to balance our budget, and it takes the wish out of my wishlist. Not that it diminishes my desire to shop, -somehow that stays intact. I guess I want to be the one buying. Again, strange, because everyone likes a gift. Maybe I want volunteers for the work next season…. I kinda think I have stumbled onto my own variant of a gift list. Give me, um…. ten hours of digging holes…. a trip to the mulch store and two hours of help mulching….. and let’s splurge now…. 50 hours ( spread over the entire season) of community effort at weeding. Now there is my idea of a Christmas gift.

Oh, hi there!

I was a garden blog pioneer, and began writing on this blog in 2003. Before that I had begun a garden website that has been at its own domain since 2006, Ilona's Garden.

I still love writing, gardening, and art after all these years, although travel and grandchildren have become a big part of my life, now.
