I don’t know about you, but I just go gawking around in wonder and awe during Spring. After the dullness of winter, (as beautiful as it can be, but it is minimalist, after all) I just drink in the color explosion of spring. I missed lots of the early bulb time due to being so busy with the wedding, and I regret that, but I am now making up for lost time.
Right now it is the daffodils that are holding court. You see their bright yellow and soft white banners everywhere. I even saw what looked like a square of field just filled with daffodils- maybe someone was raising them for the florist trade.
Before we are too far into the season I would like to suggest that you get your notebook or journal out and take stock of what effects you like and try to find names for them because this is the best time to make notes for what you would like to plant for a spring show. We have to plant much of this in the fall and all those pictures on the front of the bulb bins are not going to give a true idea of what the individuals look like in your garden.
So as we go about experiencing the beautiful spring we can be mentally designing the ones we want in our own gardens. I personally want more perennial plant/bulb combinations. So sometime this week off I will go to purchase some Aurinia saxatilis (Alyssum saxatilis)–Basket of Gold . I favor the more subtle coloration of Alyssum saxatile Citrinum. More a lemony yellow rather than the golden dandelion yellow.
Which -speaking of- some dandelions are now blooming- must get after some of the more bullying ones.
