I fattened up my blogroll by spending an unconscionable amount of time on blogshares. I found a few good ones, while looking through many that are empty space pretty much. Many haven’t been updated since 2003.
On the one hand I understand. It is hard to write about gardening and actually do it. Especially on a day-to-day basis; and especially if it is only a hobby. For one thing, when you neglect your garden and then write about it, it fairly mocks you.
That reminds me. I just haven’t taken many pictures either. I thought about it, and then the thoughts went away.
I now understand how modern day office worker types become alienated from nature. When you have appointments to keep and you have to keep your fingernails all nice and clean, it is hard to escape to the garden for a good weed pulling session or two. When you sit at a computer desk, your muscles atrophy and you dread calling upon them for the taxing duty of garden digging, et al.
But there is nothing like a garden to connect with what is real, and to soothe your harried soul. There is the satisfaction of a job that -for the time being- actually looks like it made a difference.
I love my garden and I really miss being in it. Right now I walk through it and just enjoy the wildness of it. (Which I will start to take care of as soon as the rain stops). It will need one last mowing, and I will mulch and tidy up the publicly prominant parts.
And you know what? I will feel good after I’ve spent time out and thought my thoughts and burnt some of the leaves and composted others. I will feel more alive from being in the fresh air and more at ease within from looking up at the sky and reaquainting with the trees.
God made His creation to be enjoyed. Less whacking, more enjoyment, that is what I think.
