I could be, but I’m not. The side yard gardens are destroyed for this year… ladders and trampling feet, bushes and plants broken if not cut down outright, weeds and compacted earth. paint chips everywhere…. that is what the gardens footing the house look like right now.
But the house is being renovated and repainted, and I look forward to rebuilding the gardens with a neater look and simpler plantings.
We’ll see…but might as well be positive about it!
The pyracantha will get more of a trimming and I will attach it in the espalier manner. It was getting a little too floppy and unmanageable before I pulled it down and pruned away some of the parts that grew awry. No small feat for a plant that was reaching up into the second story region. [ who put those typos in there-who!? nevermind I fixed them]
The variegated hydrangea suffered a bit of trampling… and I am very sorry about that since it is so hard to get going. I decided to give it a little more special attention after that side of the house is finished, dig around it and add some peat moss and compost. Poor thing. No use trying to do anything before the cloddy workmans feet are finished with the work.
And I have some lovely mulch in readiness. Everything will look so much better! It will make up for the fact that I didn’t work on that front garden like I had planned. If I start pulling things out to divide and replant in the next two weeks I will be happy with myself. This is the best season to get perennials growing for the coming year…besides spring. So I should say “next best”. Most all of my trees did well. Only two are questionable.
What has made me a little sad, though, is the fact that I had to displace gardening for an entire half of a season. There really are only so many gardening seasons in one’s life, each one is precious.
Well, I am back at it, and that is what counts for now….. time is always a forward moving affair.
