We had our first Advent devotional yesterday, in our family we try to make it daily throughout the Christmas season. It doesn’t always work out that way when shopping, baking and other things interfere, but we try.
There has been little decorating, except that the husband put up the Christmas lights last week. That was a good thing for him because it has since turned pretty chilly around here.
Our next project, Christmas-wise, is to purchase the tree and a wreath. I have some of the decorations for the house pulled out, but I do not feel like decorating the house for another week. I mean, Thanksgiving is just over!
Breathe, just breathe.
Truthfully, I plan to be more relaxed this Christmas..of course I say that every Christmas, but this time I mean it 🙂
We are thinking of changing the big meal on Christmas Eve to a finger food and hors d’oeuvres meal. I don’t know if that would cut the work exactly, just relax the timetable. I haven’t decided yet.
I love Christmas, and all the efforts that make it exciting, but I also want to emphasize the spiritual aspect. I don’t know if that is possible without simplifying the ‘accoutrements’. If we lived the old fashioned way of slowly readying for Christmas far earlier maybe it would be…but that would have still been much simpler than the wild rush of Christmas that we now experience.
Choices, choices.
