FEEeeeelings…

28.09.04 | Ilona Erwin | No Comments

Got that song in your head? Good. I have started to get sympathy feelings for florists. The idea of red with touches of pink is not my own taste, but that is something that florists try to deal with all the time, trying to make something artistic that also has individualized appeal for their client. You can’t be too dominant in your own opinion, but you have to have an ability of how to translate someones wants into something that manifests the best of your own vision. I think landscaping is like that, too.

So far, the wedding bouquet is a tentative group of red roses, pink heather, red/pink sweet pea, calla lily, and baby’s breath. Where it goes from there will probably be up to the pro florist. The idea for the table setting is starting to coalesce around a rice paper lantern… using flowers of red roses, red ranunculus, greenery…. and we’ll see. I think touches of gold would look pretty, but that would make pink weird… unless it was the kind of bloom that has yellow undertones and lights to it. White/Pink/Red is too “sugary Valentines day”, instead of Bridal white, I think. I’ll keep working on the ideas….

Did you know that simple river rocks are outrageously expensive? Outrageous. It is worth traveling to Lake Erie to collect my own. And power washing and sanitizing them, myself. Not really… but they were beyond what I think is a fair price.

The weather here is just gorgeous, and I haven’t worked in the garden at all. I hate myself for that. It is like I know that if I start I won’t quit. But that is just my obsessive/compulsive part speaking. I just am unsure of how strong that part is now growing. So I try to do all my other chores and obligations first, and then my health hasn’t helped any. But that is temporary, I am sure. It has given me pause in my plans for the garden as I age. Like everything else in my life, I need to plan for the future in my gardening.

Right here… The Scots would say “Help me Boab.” But I don’t say that because I am not at all sure what it really means…. expressions can be really sort of diabolical. Like, ever say “speaking of the devil”? I mean, what are saying about those people when we use that expression? Ever think of that?

AND NOW
…back to our regular gardening programming…..
