Gardener’s Christmas Wishlist

06.12.04 | Ilona Erwin | No Comments

I love Christmas Baskets, they are like “stockings hung by the chimney” for Grown-ups! I once received an Italian-meal Christmas basket from my sister, and I am still using the spatterware pasta bowl the meal ingredients came in- even though those are a memory from years past, now. That is still a wonderful idea for most people to give or get. But I was thinking about what kind of basket that a longtime gardener would delight in. Beginning gardeners are easy- like newlyweds, they need everything. But what to give the gardener of discernment?

I think a pair of exceptional garden gloves would be a good inclusion, something of better quality than might be chosen for oneself. I bought some goatskins at Target a few years ago, that I liked so well I later bought a second pair. I didn’t see that type although Smith & Hawken has some similar ones, but a definite upgrade I know I would like a bionic garden glove, which comes in Women’s and Men’s. This sounds like the best idea in garden gloves that I have ever seen…plus it’s a beautiful leather. I prefer leather garden gloves, and these have features that longtime gardener’s would appreciate: wrist support, flexibility, and protected wrist access. I want, I want….. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Women’s Bionic Gardening ReliefGrip Gloves
  • BIONIC ENHANCED GARDENING GLOVES for Men Medium PAIR

A truly useful hand protectant like Bag Balm or Burt’s Bees Balm, and a small-sized sunscreen, along with an old fashioned hand scrub-brush. An upgraded gardener’s carry-all to put everything into, along with a gift card to a high quality seed catalog is thoughtful. Shepherds, Thompson & Morgan, are two I can think of…. or a gift card to the persons local nursery if you know one. Maybe you can find a great gardening trug and place all the goodies in there!

  • Bag Balm – 8 ounce
  • Burt’s Bees Tips N Toes Hands & Feet Kit
  • Esschert Design USA MW19 Sussex Trugs, Set of 3

Maybe include a helpful gardening book, like Continuous Bloom.

Not enough good ideas for your favorite gardener? Try browsing the Smith & Hawken goods at your local Target store. I just know you can find something special!

There is always the related gift such as a digital camera. This is becoming a garden necessity for some people.

I may be unusual, but these are the kinds of things that I like better than jewelry or clothes. Yes, call me crazy, but I guess I am sort of crazy over gardening. It wouldn’t hurt to add in a small bottle of cologne if you know the right kind, or fun garden-type earrings, but …um… if you are thinking lingerie or something, I think there is probably a better theme than gardening.

Although it does remind me of the news item years ago of the nude lawn mowing lady, um,……never mind. Suffice to say, most gardeners would be happy to receive something that recognizes their own particular obsession. Here’s my pick for under the tree:

See? we gardener’s are easy to shop for:)

Hope this helps you with your holiday shopping.
