Last fall while browsing at a local store I saw some “gutter guards”. They were available in two colors (brown & white), were in 3 ft lengths, and had these 3/8″ perforated holes in them. Being frustrated with the periodic cleaning of the gutters, I thought I would give them a try, especially since they cost less than $1 each.
Today: I ripped all of them off and put them in the trash can! They actually made things worse. The holes allowed dirt, small debris, seeds, pine/spruce needles, etc., through, while at the same time trapping the maple seed wings. It was too difficult to try to dis-lodge all the maple seed wings, and also difficult to clean the gutter itself without actually removing the “guards”.
So, now I am back to having to do an unpleasant semi-annual gutter cleaning. But not as unpleasant as having to deal with these worthless gutter guards.
Although the pros claim to have “faultless” gutter guards that they guarantee will only let water thru, I am wary of spending a bunch of money and finding that they don’t really work as advertised and the “guarantee” happens to have “small print” that excludes me!
I am interested in any experiences any of you readers may have had with gutter guards. It would be nice to minimize/eliminate this maintenance without having to spend a fortune.
