Sorry Dear Readers, I can’t help myself. Apples are a favorite fruit, and I went looking for others who love it and/or are writing about it during this season. If you share my enthusiasm you may have hit the jackpot for indulging in recipes and other things “apple”.
Outdoor Cooking Guild has grilling tips but that is not what drew me…noooo, it was the apple dumpling recipe illustrated temptingly on the page. From there to the apple smoke flavor dumplings.
Sweet apple memories. Some haiku, as well.
Cute pictures…not a few them centered around The Apple. Not surprising since it is called The Lunchbox Project!
Cheeses and Fermented Apple Cider
Ginger Apple Preserves, anyone?
“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.”

-found along with much history, sayings, and fun on APPLES! The pièce de résistance of my posted links.
Ilona, thank you so much for these apple links!!
I have a big massive box of apples sitting here, my boys don’t really do apple sauce and so I was wondering what on earth I could do with them. I’m going to try the preserve – right now!
I’ll let you know how it goes.
I followed every link you offered and giggled with glee at the journey, but those apple dumplin’s had me at hello, then more cinnamon/brown sugar sprinkled over the dumplin’ stopped me in my tracks, the drizzle of caramel and smattering of pecans had my tastebuds begging, finally the dollop of whipped cream was more than I could take…I’m heading for the orchard on Saturday.
According to some, it was really hard cider Johnny Appleseed was planting. There’s a farmer in New Hampshire who’s growing apples for that very purpose. He’s hoping to start a revolution.
And did you know it probably wasn’t an apple that got Eve in trouble in the garden of Eden? It was more likely a pomegranate.
“An apple a day” was drawn up by orchardists so as to sell more apples. Monocultures soon followed and produced just that.
I do hope all those recipes turn out as good as they look. Another good way to use apples is to flavor meat, like ham or with sausage.
I just had some of the best cider- there is nothing to compare with good fresh cider- I pour a little off the top and freeze to pull out for Christmas time.
My husband likes a cider/ale mixture called Black velvet.
Whatever his motivations, Johnny Appleseed did a great service:)
oh- I have a GREAT pomegranate recipe: pear and pomegranate salad. It is tempting…but in a good way.
