Well, it is hard to get back into a groove, especially after a break. I could use a years sabbatical (maybe 2 or 3 years, or more). Anyway, some things I have gotten done (petty as they are):
1. Applied Round-up to about 1/2 the driveway and front walkway. Our driveway is roughly around 400′ (circular). I usually wait to do this in early morning when there is no wind to cause drift.
2. Dragged out the “Inflatable Ring Pool” from the barn. It has been unused for 2 years. Took quite awhile to get it cleaned up and set up for filling. We get our pool & spa water trucked in because our well water is so lousy (lots of iron). Got it and the spa filled today.
3. Working hard on differentiating between “wants” and “needs”. With the countries’ economic situation the way it is I think this is especially important. Pay down debt!!! Take control of your own life.
4. I am very happy with my Husky electric pressure washer (purchased from Home Depot a couple years ago). As previously posted, I would avoid “Karcher” brand like the plague. It’s no wonder you see so many of these sold as “factory reconditioned”. They were a piece of #&%! to begin with, how can they be anything better now? “Karcher: setting new lows in quality products on a regular basis!”
5. Still trying to get hi-speed internet where we are. We are stuck with dial-up. Can’t get DSL, can’t get cable. Can get satellite but don’t want to buy the equipment and be locked into a 2 yr contract. Latest possibility is thru a radio tower antenna which looks promising. Have already tried 2, but they couldn’t get a signal. Newest one apparently can (fingers crossed!) They are talking about installing this weekend.
6. Bought a Tom Tom GPS. Looking forward to seeing how it operates. I can definitely see benefits of this, especially after recent trip to Atlanta. I had ordered this from Costco online. Had a $50 off deal. From my research online, it seems the Tom Tom is more favorable than Garmin or Magellin. At least that was my take on it.
7. Re-evaluating unnecessary driving. Since we live out in the country, it is a 10 mile drive to town. This adds up to $4 in gas for a round trip. Since Friday night is pizza night, if I drive to town and back every Friday for a year, that costs $200 in gas just for that. What I am doing is trying to pick-up the pizza on the way home from work. We go to church twice a week (Sunday & youth group on Thursday). That is $8/week = $400/yr, just for that. Often, you don’t factor in these little trips here & there, but they all add up substantially. If I go to Lowes or Home Depot every Saturday for my materials that is $4/week = $200/yr. Need to plan my projects, pick up materials on way home from work, or lump it in with other errands.
