Containers and planters June

Saturday Was Slave Day OR Ilona’s Terrible Awful No-Good Day

And the slave was me. I worked very hard from quite early in the morning potting up even more containers. I have more sunny flower containers than shady ones, but more part-sun spaces. Oh well. It was so hot, I could only do a little digging and weeding. I tried to get my husband to till for me, but the tiller was out of commission – so it is off to the repair shop. I will have to hand dig the space I want to plant. That has been the story for almost all our power machines this year.::grumble::

I needed more potting soil ( no surprise) so I got the bright idea of going out shopping midday. Ever have “one of those days”? I did. I ended the outing having to go home when my glass of POM lychee sweet tea exploded all over me in the car. Don’t ask- I don’t know how it happened. I asked my husband why things like that happen to me, but never to him…. he is normal. I am not- I attract exploding tea glasses.

It was mainly a bad day- shopping wise- because we went from store to store ( something neither of us likes to do) in search of those coir basket liners. Every store was out. Every single store. Meijers, WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes, we were on our way to another store when the exploding ice tea happened. I guess there was grace in that…… My husband remarked ( he says it is remarking- I thought it was complaining) that I can never go into a store looking for something and come out with nothing. I kinda wished I had taken notice – because one of the things I came out of Walmart with was that POM lychee ice tea…. >:(
…but mostly it was odds and ends of plants and a paper towel holder…stuff like that….

PS: My husband went with me so he could get more deck stain. Yes, he went in and got his deck stain and got out…
He did finish staining the deck floors. He is not very excited about staining th erails and lattice; but I convinced him the look of a half done job is unacceptable and besides we can stick paint brushes into the hands of about five people around here and that should make light work. Somehow that didn’t enthuse him.

Ok, enough ellipsis. We did get much needed rain and heavy downpours this morning. Thank You God.

Oh, hi there!

I was a garden blog pioneer, and began writing on this blog in 2003. Before that I had begun a garden website that has been at its own domain since 2006, Ilona's Garden.

I still love writing, gardening, and art after all these years, although travel and grandchildren have become a big part of my life, now.
