Soon- the holidays

November 14, 2008 by Ilona Erwin

Christmas season

Holidays are not too far away- as anyone visiting the stores is aware ( Christmas music, anyone?). When writing you have to prepare ahead of time, so I wrote a page on Christmas plants– just short entries and quicklist growing info. And I have been getting the Christmas page in order for the season.

Anybody have any Christmas plant favorites?

I usually get a large poinsettia, varied greens to decorate, and a Rosemary tree (which I kill every year, but now have new care tips to try and follow). In years past there are times I couldn’t resist the beautiful cyclamens- I just love those. I had varied results with keeping them, but family demands sometimes meant that the houseplants got neglected. Plus my water seems really bad for plants. I picked up a tip to add vinegar to the high pH water- so I’ll try that.

I like rosemary for Christmas, but don’t usually buy indoor plants. I work too hard on the outside plants:)

That is a good tip to add a bit of vinegar. It would make sense, but I think I would check the ph to find out just how much to add before using the water. Don’t want a bunch of plants on acid now.

LOL! I guess it would be easy to use those little test strips that are made for hot tubs… after awhile you would have an approximate idea of the water:vinegar.

Oh, hi there!

I was a garden blog pioneer, and began writing on this blog in 2003. Before that I had begun a garden website that has been at its own domain since 2006, Ilona's Garden.

I still love writing, gardening, and art after all these years, although travel and grandchildren have become a big part of my life, now.
