It is hot and muggy, temperatures reaching towards 100 ° and my garden is wilted in the heat. I check on it every once in awhile, but only madmen garden in this heat. I used to, which tells you something about me, but have turned a bit wiser with age.
I watered one of my newer sweetgum trees which is in danger of dying. It has struggled along in the past couple seasons, and looks quite ailing even after I gave it fresh mulch and fertilizer this year. I really hope I don’t have to replace it. This evening will find me watering the young evergreen trees, mostly types of Colorado spruce. The heat here is punishing.
I recently saw a purple sand cherry in someone’s yard which was pruned up into a weeping tree shape. Once the weather moderates I may do this with my own, which has a sprawling shrub un-shape.
We finally turned on our window air conditioner- I had gotten away without it during the summer up to this point, but now we would be reduced to the semblance of damp rags hanging upon a line if not for respite in the “cool room” ( where my computer resides). I suppose I will have to venture out, but not for another few minutes yet.
