First year that we didn’t dive into near or below zero temperatures in the first week of the year. Usually I can count on it- I have a recollection for such things ever since a Junior High allergic reation exacerbated by the low temps made me into a temporary circus freak. So I now have a sort of sensitivity to being careful during such weather and always find winter comes in earnest around January first.
But not this year. There are many places in the USA which can say this, I understand. Just read this today:
Crocuses are pushing out of the ground in New Jersey. Ice fishing tournaments in Minnesota are being canceled for lack of ice. And golfers are hitting the links in Chicago in January. Much of the Midwest and the East Coast are going through a remarkably warm winter, with temperatures running 10 and 20 degrees higher than normal in many places. ~By TARA BURGHART, AP

I have to send away for some plant catalogs- I haven’t been receiving them. Actually I did get one, but accidentally left it at the hotel I was staying at between the holidays. So now I have no dream materials to carefully mull and plan around.
One of my New Year’s Resolutions is that 2007 will see me more in my garden. My accomplishments there always are some of the more sastifying of those which I “set my hand to do”.
