I think that is how we will look back on 2005, come next New Year. I am sitting in my house and all is darkened with the Thunderstorm which is pouring out yet more water. I have felt badly even saying anything about this after reading about California. And it remains how much damage we will see after the Ohio River has its way.
All eclipsed by the mighty tsunami of the Indian Ocean basin.
And when the floods recede, when the sun shines again, we gardeners will test the soils tilth and initiate the age-old occupation of growing things. Man will rebuild his communities, but will he look up to God and give thanks?
I am one of those who believes that the earth responds to man’s proper acknowledgement of the Creator. That all of creation is groaning under man’s present transgressions.
We punish ourselves. Ourselves, and each other and the physical earth groans under its burden of death and decay.
You may read this any way you like, I am not trying to make doctrinal statements here…. I am expressing the desire to see us use the illustrations in nature of how very small and dependent we are to value our responsibility. To each other, to the earth, to God.
We till the earth in hope.
