Some people think that God cannot possibly have a sense of humor… that He must be uptight, stern, and fond of saying “We are not amused”, but a look at some of the things in creation and how they look, work, and their effects on us as we observe them, make me think that their Creator is quite the opposite.

I was led along this path of thinking while reading a post about “Witches Eggs” by Daricia McKnight, in her blog ‘A Charlotte Garden’. I hadn’t really heard of witches eggs although I had heard of, but never seen, what they become (no spoiler- you really will need to walk through her photos and story). I learned quite a bit about an interesting denizen of the woods, although I don’t know if it grows in Ohio woods.
I started actually laughing when Daricia confessed that her favorite name for it was “Satan’s member”, because the explicit photos make no bones about what sort of double entendre we are talking about.
And it is then that I started to appreciate God’s sense of humor; I mean, really, why place odd mimicry throughout nature if you don’t wish to find a laugh-out-loud situation? That’s how I felt about it.
Admittedly, I watch far too many Nature shows on PBS and the ones that depicted the mating dance, habits, and appearance of some birds ( I am thinking of the six plumed bird of paradise at the moment).
Our emotions are stirred by so many things in nature, we are taught and identify with the big motifs of life while interacting with the varied elements of the natural world. And as now, it can entertain us.
