If you are an avid do it yourselfer you might remember the Red Green Show. It had a lot of laughs mixed in with some stuff I didn’t get and probably lots of stuff that nobody gets, but Red Green is an iconic Handyman. Down to the beard and sly humor.
I thought a few quotes from the old show might inject a little humor into our pastime of working on old houses. a little craic for the grok ~me.
Ok, probably NOBODY gets that!
The most important quote ever from Red Green:
Remember, men, if the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
All it takes is a little imagination, some mechanical ability, and neighbors who mind their own business.
The handyman’s secret weapon – duct tape.
Be generous with the duct tape, you know; spare the duct tape, spoil the job.
Red Green: [preparing to go forward with a handyman project] Sound ingenious? Sound incredible? Sound impossible? Who cares? I’m not listening.
When the going gets tough, switch to power tools.
As you get older, you realize you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you can get yet another financial setback.
One man’s junk is another man’s antique and if someone thinks rust and dust turns trash into cash, who am I to argue? These people are a lot smarter than we are.
You know, contrary to popular folklore, bats will not suck the blood out of your body. That’s your boss’ job.
