The charming landscape which I saw this morning is indubitably made up of some twenty or thirty farms. Miller owns this field, Locke that, and Manning the woodland beyond. But none of them owns the landscape. There is a property in the horizon which no man has but he whose eye can integrate all the parts, that is, the poet. This is the best part of these men’s farms, yet to this their warranty-deeds give no title.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
How often do we stop and think with thankfulness of our shared landscapes? every gardener, every farmer, every architect, every homeowner has a role in creating, maintaining and preserving viewsheds.

How very true. I love having ‘ownership’ to my neighbor’s great property as I am like the only one who really enjoys the view of the pond and fields. It is all ‘mine’:) No deed required.
Lovely place Ilona, where is it? Is it local? Must have been taken in the spring. It seems so far away, doesn’t it?
msrobin- as the credits show the pictures aren’t mine- they are of other places and from other photographers ( @ morguefile). I wanted to illustrate the quote and the thought. I especially liked the idea of taking in the view through the opening in the stone wall.
tina- I’m all for sharing 🙂 I think we get too proprietary in our modern world.
