Japanese beetles have struck my garden again. Out mowing, I noticed the Stella cherry tree was bronze with skeletonized leaves. Coming closer it was filled with the terrible metallic armored beetles munching away. It gives me the willies to mow underneath these infested trees because a rain of beetles comes down on me when I brush by the branches. As I moved about the yard… it was the amelanchier canadensis, the contorted hazel, the viburnum Burkwoodi, the roses, the peaches, the apple trees in the distance…. all with the same devastated bronzed lace foliage. It happened so quickly… I noticed nothing just a day or so ago, only the usual feeding frenzy on the rose blooms. Their favorite is that Stella cherry, however. All are blighted by the swarms of Japanese beetles.
The weather is heating up and the weeds have become something out of a horror show. On the bright side… I bought some plants at a sale. I just have to fit them in somewhere.
