Trees I Grow

[originally posted 10/19/07]When I moved to my place here in the country, there were precious few trees on the property. Back in the seventies the farmers had determinedly cleared the land for more production. Obscene production I call it, but … [Read more...] about Trees I Grow

Tree news

Today is the day my trees are getting trimmed. The men with the heavy equipment have been at work for the last hour or so. I requested for the mulch from the branches to be dumped in an area where I can utilize it for "under" mulch next year. And in … [Read more...] about Tree news

What To Do Now: September

No it isn't a "Honey-do" list, but just some reminders before the season gets away from you! As it often does for me....This is a great month for planting things- the still warm weather means that plants can get settled in, and the autumn rains are … [Read more...] about What To Do Now: September

Garden Maturity

I've been a long time in this present garden, now. Long enough to reckon with mature plant sizes and the times I broke the rules on proper spacing. There are a few situations that I truly rue not paying attention to height and spread, and in one I … [Read more...] about Garden Maturity

My Chores And Prairiefire Crabapple

A little update on what's happenin' around here. If I was Southern I might say h'yere :) It has been cool enough to work easily outside, and yet here I am on the computer...but I slip out, grab the kids, and work a bit on the yard. The grass has … [Read more...] about My Chores And Prairiefire Crabapple

Flowering Trees For Spring

The GGW project had a number of entries for the Redbud tree. The deadline is midnight tonight... and I decided at the last minute to enter this entry for "Flowering Trees". Arrange the July garden around lilies

Tagged With: flower bulbs, garden design, lilies, perennial border

Every month has it's supreme leading lady flower of the garden; June has the Rose, but July has the Lily. Especially now that the "Orienpets" have been created. They were the belle of several beds at the Inniswood Gardens Metro Park, and I would love … [Read more...] about Arrange the July garden around lilies

Oh, hi there!

I was a garden blog pioneer, and began writing on this blog in 2003. Before that I had begun a garden website that has been at its own domain since 2006, Ilona's Garden.

I still love writing, gardening, and art after all these years, although travel and grandchildren have become a big part of my life, now.
